What Do E-Cigs Contain?

There is a lot of confusion about the contents of electronic cigarettes and the liquid used to vape with them. Many people are wary of the e-liquid and are concerned that it could contain tobacco, nicotine or a variety of harmful substances. Others say that it is only water vapor and not harmful in way,but the truth is somewhere in the middle, as usual.

There are four primary ingredients found in most e-cigarettes. These are the vegetable glycerin, propylene glycol, flavoring and nicotine. There is variation from one e-liquid to another, depending on the manufacturer and the kind of e-liquid you choose, but most of them will contain all four of these ingredients.

The flavorings are the least problematic of these. They are identical to the flavorings found in most foods, and they can be anything from fruit flavors to dessert varieties meant to give the e-liquid vapor a more pleasant or distinct taste. Many of them even imitate the flavor of tobacco cigarettes, without a lot of the harmful substances.

They do not contain tobacco, but e-cigarettes do tend to contain nicotine. This isn’t nearly as harmful as it is in tobacco cigarettes, when it is combined with combustible processes that can cause cancer. In fact, nicotine is harmless in the amounts that most vaping enthusiasts inhale. It is only when consumed in large quantities that it becomes toxic, and before that happens, it will make the user nauseous and sick, so it becomes difficult to continue inhaling it at that point. It is certainly addictive, but otherwise mostly harmless.

The vegetable glycerin is a base liquid that helps create the vapor produced when using an e-cigarette. This is a colorless liquid that comes from oils but is not actually an oil. It is really an alcohol, and that makes it safe to inhale. Vegetable glycerin, or VG, helps make the vapor more pleasant, and it is something that is found in a lot of foods you probably eat already. It has never been associated with any health issues, and is perfectly safe to use in vaporization.

The final ingredient in most e-liquids used in e-cigs is propylene glycol. This complicated-sounding substance is a liquid alcohol as well, and is almost completely odorless. It can have a slightly sweet taste to it, though. This helps to create a certain throat hit that vape users find pleasant, and sometimes more propylene glycol is used instead of VG to create a more desirable hit in the back of the throat.

The different types of e-liquid switch between using higher concentrations of VG or PG (propylene glycol). You can probably find one you like once you experiment with different varieties that combine the two in different ways. Some are heavy on the PG, while others are heavy on the VG, and you just have to experiment to find what works for you.

As you can see, there is little risk associated with inhaling e-liquids as a vapor. The problem tends to come when people use e-liquids that have additional ingredients. These could be added chemicals, fillers, vitamins and other substances that are not ideal for vaporization and that can cause health problems when vaped. It’s better to stick with just these four ingredients and nothing else, and you can usually see what the e-liquid contains by looking at the label.

If the manufacturer has not provided an ingredient list, which is still a problem in the US, then you should be wary of them. It’s possible that there are other ingredients in that e-liquid that will not be safe to vape. Do some research before you start using any e-liquid to ensure that you are getting a high-quality product and one that will produce a pleasant vapor for you.
